Food for our Fighters, Treats for our Troops

Full steam ahead! I go straight to the hottest of political potatoes now: American military activities in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Whether you stand by the current administration’s increasingly tenuous justifications or whether you think as I, a brilliant military strategist (my credentials: beating Foodgoat’s entire family at Risk in my one and only game … mwah hah hah!), do, that the actions were perhaps a wee bit hasty, we can all agree on supporting the soldiers, our guys and gals overseas.

What can a Ladygoat, far from the front, do for them? She knits way too slowly, and besides it’s hot over there. But she, and you, can give them a little taste of home, and a little more to eat for when the going gets tough.

For one thing, you can buy a soldier a piece of pizza and a can of Pepsi. I'm sure there's some soldier out there who likes pineapple and ham.

Or, you can donate a prepackaged care package from USA Rations.

Or make your own care package! Put together a box of small, easily-carried items like ...
Gatorade
Breakfast-type foods and drinks
Small, single pot packages of coffee
Hot chocolate packages
Canned tuna and chicken
Canned Chef Boyardee ravioli, beefaroni, spaghetti & meatballs, etc (in "zip-top" or easy to open cans)
Canned fruit (with flip top lids)
Beef Jerky
Canned Nuts
Cereal bars, granola bars, etc.
Pre-sweetened powdered drinks, Kool-Aid, Gatorade, etc.
Seasonings & Tabasco
Beef jerky / Slim Jim’s
Candy/gum

The Northern Ohio USO, or other USO branch, will accept these donations. You can't just send stuff to "Any Soldier" anymore, but I will be sending some of these items, along with Foodgoat's FHM magazines and my old paperbacks, to soldiers who have made requests at the Books for Soldiers website. Excuse me while I go pack up the Twizzlers and powdered Ranch dressing and Apple Cinnamon instant oatmeal.

Hooah!
