At first I was indignant that the Jr. Frosty from Wendy's was so tiny - a mere 12 ounces, taking up about the same amount of space as the Baconator. But then I realized that, as sweet as it is and as thick as it is, it's actually the perfect dessert size. And, it looks hilarious with a regular straw.

The Tiny Frosty

Nothing Says Love Like Bacon
The Wendy's Baconator, introduced last June, consists of six strips of bacon on top two quarter pound beef patties with two slices of American cheese, mayo and ketchup.
Besides having the most awesome burger name ever, the Baconator is actually really tasty. Wendy's burgers tend to be among the better of the fast food choices, but the Baconator stands out as being particularly yummy. The key, I think, is the bacon: the hickory smoked bacon is slightly sweet and quite flavorful and crisp. It's an aptly named product. And it's huge - much bigger than I could finish off. Or would want to: the Baconator comes in at (gulp!) 830 calories.
But every once in a while, Foodgoat and I look into each other's eyes ... and decide what we really want is a Baconator.

WendysGate
The french fries are barely cold, but the infamous stop at Wendy's has been revealed as - gasp! - a publicity stunt. John Kerry and John Edwards and wives had gourmet box lunches waiting for them in their bus.
Their other lunch, which at $200 was definitely not from the 99-cent menu, featured shrimp vindaloo, grilled diver sea scallops, prosciutto-wrapped stuffed chicken and steak salad.

I am Asian
I almost choked on my dried mango mid-morning snack when I saw that McDonald's, icon of generic food, is trying to co-opt my ethnic identity.
I suppose I can accept them recognizing Asian-American kids as a huge consumer market. I guess I could also see some value in at least including the some educational material that challenges the assumption that all Asians are the same.
But, honestly, do they really have to trademark the phrase "I am Asian"?
I'll still eat their French fries, I'll do it resentfully.

California highlight #7
Ladygoat, her sista & brudda iz cruising da dark streets of their old 'hood, Irvington. When dey realize they's near Mickey D's, they head that hooptie Honda Accord right over. Yo, what's da big deal, you axe? It's September 17, foo', an' dat particular McDonald's iz celebrating 34 years with a 34-cent menu. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, cookies, 34 centizzles, fo' shizzle!
The line at the drive-through goes out an' around but inside da lines iz only a couple peeps deep. They strategize: cuz dere's a limit o' 10 per menu item. They order: 5 hamburgers, 10 cheeseburgers, 10 fries. Total: $8.50. Das what I'm talkin' about, G.
The posse takes dat boo-yaa grub back to the crib for the blanco nino.
30 minutes later: We're a not feeling so phat ... just fat. Turns out 10 orders of small fries = a lot of fries. But it was an adventure.
