New Toy

One day, our oven died. It just didn't work anymore.

For five months, we couldn't bake anything. No brownies, no roasted Brussels sprouts.

And then one day Foodgoat couldn't take it anymore. He had to make a pizza.

So we bought a new stove.

And we couldn't be happier. This GE is much nicer than the old Maytag that the house came with - a central oval burner! A griddle! Continuous grates! Power boil! A broiler at the top of the oven instead of underneath it!

Even Sabbath mode, which I'm pretty sure we will never ever use!

Most importantly, we have already made pizza twice.

What a difference a good appliance makes.

  1. What's Sabbath mode? Does it have to do w/ the day of rest, or the band Black Sabbath? I know, I'm clueless. Sorry.

Also, have you tried Walmart's frozen pizza? No, I'm serious. They are surprisingly good. & Whole wheat crusts. I use a pizza stone, even though frozen pizza tell you not to. I love it. (you know, for when you don't have time to make your own pizza).

Also, I've made one w/ a white onion cream sauce instead of tomato; delish! Got the idea from Freshetta's Portabella Mushroom & Spinach pizza. Only it's a bit healthier (& yummier) to make it yourself.

  2. I had no idea what Sabbath mode was either! Thanks to Twitter, I found out that Jewish religion prohibits the use of basic oven features on Sabbath and holidays. So the Sabbath mode overrides the automatic shutoff which usually kicks in after the oven has been operating consecutively for twelve hours. This makes it possible to keep cooked foods warm on the Sabbath or use the range over religious holidays for cooking and warming food. It also eliminates tones or timer beeps, doesn't display icons, and allows temperature adjustments on holidays without displays or beeps.
