Idaho? Udaho? Actually, It's the Senator

Foodgoat and I were snickering yesterday over the latest hypocritical denials and disavowals from Senator Larry "I am not gay" Craig regarding his encounter with an undercover policeman in a Minneapolis airport bathroom, when suddenly we remembered why his name was familiar:

Senator Larry Craig ... from Idaho ... the one with the Super Tuber recipe?!? The hot dog-in-a-potato recipe that was so suggestive and so blatantly indecent I blush to have posted it?!? The dish that seems to aspire towards actual, rather than metaphorical, food porn?!?

Yup, that's the one.

I wonder if the Super Tuber is another one of those secret signals Craig employed?

  1. In the context of current events, this tends to leave a person speechless. No wonder you have gotten just one comment so far!

  4. Hello All Chow Readers: I was getting a kick out of the comments people said about this post over there.

    Yes, this recipe is real
and yes we just happened to pick it out of the blue about two years ago. We have no grudge against the senator. We just thought it was funny in recent light.

For the record: it's olive oil (I only use the best) and without the oil it's hard to push the hotdog in the patato.

    Enjoy.

  6. Quite the food porn dog!

Craig has vowed not to "resign his seat" through the next election. One can only hope that it remains open to all that come seeking it.

One could rather lazily point out Craig's self hated. But what he exposes is really a manner of pandering for power that is all too frequent in today's politician. What Craig's side portents to preach is a "small government conservatism" that would enable the liberty of the individual (an Ann Rand-y conservatism, albeit hers was VERY heterosexual), yet what he preached was a government policy that was every bit as intrusive as anything Orwell dreamt of.

Keep in mind, Orwell was not in favor of big government liberal ideals either, but rather the problems of entrusting power in a class of individuals. Power corrupts.

  7. This is too funny. Food porn, indeed. But then, this is the same Senator who suggested during Clinton's impeachment hearings that the then-President was a "nasty bad naughty boy."
